  Global words, local streets: The Role of English in Lleida’s Linguistic Landscape   Núria Cobo & Maria José Ferrer       INTRODUCTION The linguistic sign that we are analyzing Lavandería, Bugaderia Autoservei, Laundry Speed Queen - Rectorat Lleida is the banner of a self-service laundromat, which is, specifically, a store located at the Carrer Ramon y Cajal, 20, 25003. The main purpose of the advertisement is to attract customers and promote the business. To this end, and due to its proximity to the university, it is written in different languages: Catalan, English, and Spanish. In addition, the signage is displayed in a bottom-up manner on the building’s façade so that it can be seen by pedestrians and passing vehicles.  Figure 1.
